Furcon Report...erp FINALLY O_o
shall we try this? I think my zombie state of mind has finally worn off with a few cups of coffee, some chocolate, and a pineapple cake courtesy of
bagheera ( you were right they do taste good with coffee...NUMMMMM.).
where to start, well for those of you who havent read midnight's, krayvenyote's, wicked_sairah's, or blue roo's journal's...our trip down to San Jose was pretty much a hellish blur of road and sun. We had to take 101 along the coast instead of i-5..and I swear there was road construction every 5 seconds. Along with that everyone in our van and if I recall right the other van, had had no sleep or very little sleep...so by the time we got there everyone had had a well over 24 hour day. We were all cranky and tired and just happy to finally arrive. The plan was to arrive sometime midday so we would all have some time to relax and stretch out and liesurely finish everything we had to do before the next day. Because we arrived late, poor jennifer had to scramble to get some of my stuff matted and because we were in such a mad rush to finish cutting mattes at her work we forgot the backing foam core for the big pieces (because I ran so late..yeah the day before we left went allllll wrong which set the pace, it seems, for the rest of the trip down). I felt really bad that she had to work so hard on MY stuff and she was so good about it too! Thank you so much sweetie, I would have been utterly lost without you. I still needa compensate you for that :).
Friday was just as insane as thursday..I was late by a few hours setting up my table in the Furry Marketplace (running back and forth between the art show and table trying to get my stuff hung up). Most of my art got hung up before the Art Show opened, but the two larger print/originals were late in being hung but they still got there by the end of the day (thank you again Jennifer!!!). Friday was pretty much a blur for me, except for the fact that I got to meet some of the great folks at the tables beside me (
likeshine,
bastek, and
reiji and a few others whose faces I remember but Im at a loss for names (IM SOOO SORRY, feel free to stone teh balaatard). I got the chance to draw both fireeyes and likeshine a badge and next year I hope to get some arts from both of them and bastek.
Saturday was a bit calmer and wasnt as adventurous, as in a mad rush to get 3 million things done, but I had pleeennntttyyy of business. Print sales were DEAAAAD, I think I sold 5 tops in 2 days, but sketchbooks and con badge commissions were pretty busy. I heard that a lot from other artists, in the dealers room and around me in general. I only have one bad experience with the con badges, but I won't go into that. Saturday night that I went to Heather Bruton's room to a hw party. Dark Natasha, Heather Bruton, Terry Smith, Jl Anderson, Wicked Sairah, Bagheera, Xian Jaguar, Michelle Light, Seso and a BUNCH of other people were there, whom..again I cant rememember the names of but the faces I remember without issue. I'm sorry for being so sucky with names :(. I got a lot of art done and we all had some laughs. The party ended up going waaay late, I left around 4 am and a few people were still left. Saturday's other highlights were getting to meet yet more people, including a good friend, Bagheera, and Kenket and kyoht (OMFG you guys are awesome). AND I got to oggle some of my favorite artists work in the art show...I wanted so badly to bid on Kyoht's Cheshire Cat original, that was always one of my absolute favorites of her work and I think will remain that way.
Sunday all the art show stuff was done, which to me was somewhat a relief and the work was still busy. Prints sold better on sunday than the other days..which didnt come as too much of a surprise. Most of the art I put in the art show sold, the two pieces that didn't were the 'Skunk Baby' and the Moth Lion, both of which surprised me greatly..but I like the pieces so I may just hold on to them..especially moth lion..he is my baby. I guess Im happy that the moth leo didnt sell, I would have been depressed if it would have gone for the minimum as I am close to him. I kinda felt bad when I heard some people pass my art and say "oh thats not even originals, its just computer art". It was a major slam to me. I used to think digital art was a shortcut to art as well I suppose, but when I started doing it myself, I learned it was just as much hard work to do digital art as it was to do real media..and real digital art doesnt have shortcuts. Plus I did consider what I sold in the art show to be originals as they came with the original concept art..which I cant reproduce. So that hurt a bit but I think I was too busy to really let it bother me too much. Sunday night my sister came and visited me and she took me out to dinner..which rofl was the first meal of the day for me. Thank you for dinner, I probably needed it more than I realized. Later on I went to another hw party in Heather Bruton's room and got a few last minute things done. I didnt take on so much work that day so it wasnt as haggering as the previous day but it was still fun. I am now officially one of Dark Natasha's harem girls..she has 6 wives now aquired at Furcon alone XD..poor thing.
As for art show sales, my real media acrylic on illustration board pieces did ok...not as well as I hoped but from what I hear from everyone the art show went rather oddly in general. My baby skunk didnt sell :(..and neither did the 'Clover Patch' moth lion original jumbo print. Ebon Sunset with original sketches fetched $350(WEEEEE!!!) and 'Promise' with original art went for 100$(which kinda dissapointed me but better than nothing). The guy that bought both stopped by my table, which was a pleasant surprise ^__^. The money I earned at my table has already done a good deal to help with the bills here at home. Tom, James's Dad, is still in the ICU wing of harborview (three weeks yesterday) and from what I gather he will be there for some time to come. He does not seem to be getting better but then he isnt getting worse either (thank goodness for small blessings). The tumor removed from his colon turned out to be cancerous, but the doctors are hopeful that they removed all of it on the first go. So we are all just trying to stay positive and help where we can. Thank you top everyone that bought anything from me, it is all going towards a good cause..
I am sure Im leaving a lot out so I'll just go to the shout outs.
[Bad username: Xian Jaguar] I am sorry I didnt get to really talk to you, but the few times I walked by your table or at the hw party, but what times I did catch you it was nice to see you smiling. I hope this con was a little less stressful for you than conifur. I had the pleasure of yet again seeing your work in person, the fox taur was my favorite by far. I hope it sold well along with the rest of your stuff. Your work is amazing, don't you doubt that for a second, otherwise Ill sick all your fans on you :P. *BIG HUGS since she didnt get to hug you before leaving). Get plenty of rest and heres to hoping for no con crud!
wicked_sairah and
blueroo Thank you for letting me come down with you and Ben, I know the drive there and back was really hard on you but I truly appreciate both you and Ben's effort. Congrats on the otter, I am glad he went to auction, I would have been upset had he not gone to auction. It is a piece well deserving of the amount it fetched. I owe you both so much because truly had it not been for you and our other roommates, this con probably would have been absolute hell. I dont have enough words to thank you both for all your work, your kind and encouraging words and simply being as strong as you both were. *hugs you both so tightly* I definetly look forward to sharing a room with you again next year.
lazalantiI don't know where to start. You were so helpful with all the matting stuff..oh lets just face it, I would have been screwed had it not been for you. I am sorry business was so slow for you, I think in good part that was my fault..since you had to run around and get all my stuff matted. I dooo still want to compensate you for your time and effort..I just didnt want to do it until all the crazyness died down and we were all rested. I had a blast talking hick stuff with you all the way down and generally blabbing my head off with you in the car..of course most of it was sleep deprived gobbily gook but nonetheless I think it made the trip go by soooo much faster and easier. I am thankful I have had the chance to share both my first con experiences with you and I hope you continue to attend so we can share more laughs and hopefully make your experiences more positive. *HUGS YOU FREGGIN TIGHT* Thank you for being such a wonderful friend to me.
maui_dolphin Thank you for all your help in hanging up my stuff and resticking all the labels...I was so panicked at that point..but you helped me keep somewhat sane. You were such a sweetheart, it was just a great breath of fresh air everytime I ran into you wherever I went. You have a gorgeous smile and your work is just as beautiful as your soul. Hopefully next time around I'll have more time to gab and we can exchange sketchbooks or badges or whatnot :). I owe you one! Oh and thank you for letting baggy share a room with you, I was glad to know he wouldnt have to sleep on the floor in the lobby or some such silly thing.
seso This con was the place I too got aquainted with your work and I must say I am impressed. Your soul shines through in your work as does your love for what you do. I wish you only the brightest of success in your adventure along the road of artistic discovery. You have such a bright beautiful smile, that no matter how tired I was your smile would be contagious to me. Thank you for that. I must do a print trade with you since I didnt get a chance to..and I hope we get to talk more and get to know each other better at the next con!
dark_natasha Thank you simply for letting me be in your presence. I felt flattered that you even knew my name..however fan girlish that sounds (lets face it I ammmmm a fangirl). Your work never ever ceases to amaze me but whats more your warm heart, genuine smile and easy going nature goes a long way to impress me even more. You are so polite to everyone that comes across you and no matter how busy you are you always manage to spare a minute to talk to someone, look at their work and say something that warms their day. Thank you simply for being a beacon of light in the artworld, an inspiration in not only your work but your spirit and gentle nature. I definetly want to get a great many more of your prints as I am a great admirer of your work and the life you give to the animals you paint. Don't work yourself too hard hun, you were going non stop everytime I saw you and try and get some rest before the next insane con. I hope to spend more time hanging around you and sucking some inspiration off you at future conventions ;)..and hopefully not ennoying you too horribly.
Oh and..yes if you bring zee verld more lemur happeeness, I will bring the world cobra luffin..because snakes dont get much luvin (always wanted a snake)
likeshine You were such a sweetie! Thank you for giving me the chance to draw your beautiful character again..Im only sorry that I didnt get to talk to you hardly at all. But then there will be many cons to come to get to know each other and share more art :D!
reiji Thank you for coming over and prodding me away from my work to talk to me, I needed a good prodding the entire time I was there! I hope to get to know you better next time around too and hopefully have time to do a badge trade or something of the sort.
dreamaria It was a grand pleasure meeting you. Thank you so much for coming around many many times and giving me well needed breaks..however short just to chat with you. You were so wonderfully pleasant to me, I just felt lucky to meet you! OHHH and of course thank you for buying a badge from me, I shall send you the sourcefile and a better print out of the badgy once things settle a bit more.
justblieve I found mooooreeeee lemuuurrsssssssss after you told me there were no more XD nanner nanner. Just kidding. Im sorry I bought them all out, but I shall make up for it with a sketch page full of lemur happynessssss. I will take you up on the offer of getting yet more lemur plusshhiiessss..because I must have MORE *cackles maniacally*. I was flattered to meet you and was glad to run into you so many times and definetly glad to run into you before we all left. Glad to hear you made it home safe and...without speeding tickets ;). You kept my energy up everytime I ran into you, even though I was exhausted beyond words and for that I am thankful :D.. Plus of course it was great just to meet a fellow lemur fan..we shall infiltrate the fandom yet and make zee verld lurve lemurs forevaahhhhh. muwahahahahahahahahahahahahaa*choke..ehe hairball*ahahahahahahahahahahaha. *Freggin snoog o doom*
kyoht WOW! just wow. I think one of the things I was definetly looking forward to on this con was seeing your work in person and let me tell you, I was not at all dissapointed..if anything I was blown away. What time I did have in the art show, I spent a good deal of oggling your work. I wanted to get the cheshire cat *pouts* but hopefully he went to a good home. One day I will own one of your originals :D!! Thank you for the printies of your work, eheh my wall will be soon cram filled with art and Balaa shall be full of happy beans. BTW the world needs more aye aye lurfing. JL anderson and I have a little gift for you(she started it XD), once I get it scanned in and everything. Hopefully its not too scary O_O. *edited just in case I have some misinformation*
kenket *Tackle hugPOUNCE of kitty flurf doom. I ADORE YOUR WORK! *bows like a fan girl at your feet* and just as with kyoht I was looking forward to seeing your work in person. I didn't expect to actually meet you and snag printies of your work *squeellll lemuuuurrssssssssssss* I don't know if you ever got a printy from me, so I owe you one there :). The lemur is going up on my wall for sure, right next to my newfound lemur plush collection XD.
I cant believe how small you work, but oh such gorgeous work it is! I enjoyed too flipping through your book of sketches, soooo many inspiring sketches (oh and I got to oggle some of the conbadges you made XD). Thank you for sharing your beautiful vision with the world. May you continue to succeed with your work and grow as a name in the art world :). I shall leave it at *writheflailFanGirlSqueeling*
goldenwolfen It was a pleasure seeing your work in person, I thought the winter wolf was a really inspiring and unique idea. I'm only sorry it did not sell, but who knows, maybe the bids will go berserk at the next con! Best of wishes to you :).
anthro_wolf Thank you for buying a bade from me, he was fun to sketch ^__^. I hope greyhound found your luggage, I am sure that made for a somewhat unpleasant trip. Nonetheless, hope your con was a pleasant one and full of more posiutive memories rather than negative :).
latin_vixen I only got to see you once, I didn't have much time to spend in the dealers room so I am not sure if you had a table in there. I did, however, get to see manyyyyyy many many of your fursuits walking around. You definetly have an instantly recognizeable style to your fursuits and they were all veerryyy cleanly and professionally designed. Hope to gab with you more next Furcon :D!
dustmeat YAY I got one of yer printies, a friend (Bagheera) actually got it for me, an anthro leo with a tan mane. tres sexay! It was nice to put a face to the art and you seemed nothing short of a truly pleasant and wonderful person. Keep the art coming!
thornwolf First of all GRATS on your lion piece! I am glad it fetched such a handsome sum and its always nice to see deserving artwork get recognized for its beauty and richness. I enjoyed simply oggling all your work and the entire time I thought how cool itd be to do a collab with you someday. Your clean style and dynamic poses with your canines are always a feast for the eyes :). I hope to get to know you better as a person and artist at future cons as you seem down to earth and easy to talk with! Rock on girl!
sfinder Grats to you too on the medieval wolf picture, it is truly an impressive piece of work, as with the rest of your work. I love your use of color and your ability to bring together all elements of a piece to create a living breathing piece of art. I had fun chatting with you the times I ran into you, only sorry I was always in such a hurry. Thank you for being so generous with me, I own you some printies for the nice big one you gave me!
_patches Twas nice to meet you in person, always a pleasure to put a face to a name! AND I got to see your fursuit, yes the paws are the cutest thing EVAH! I am still impressed with how close to tlk the head was, veraaay nice. Thank you too for yet again trusting me with your chara and letting me make you a badge. Im somewhat dissapointed with the way my laptop monitor reads colors and the printer only further butchered them..but still hope you liked eet!
calicougar I only got the chance to run into you once in the dealers room, but as always I cant help but smile when I see your work. I have a soft spot in my heart for toony work rich in life and motion. I HAVE to get a conbadge or sketchbook trade with you someday as the vividness of emotion in your work always blows me away.
missmonstermel Like I told you, you are the first and only person that ever made me seriously consider cutting my hair super short and dying it pink. I feel priveledged that I got the chance to share a room with you, hear your insanely hilarious stories, and see your demon costume upclose. That was by far my favorite 'fursuit' at the entire con! K you just RAWK FREGGIN HARD!! I so needa get a ton of art from you XD *wants a tard badge*
goldenrod Well what can I say about you? I love running into you! You are so easy to be around and fun to talk with..and of course I totally have the hawts for your character. It's probably the shirt XD *steals*. YES we must find time to oc..just to see what kind of crazyness comes out..and for that matter I always get my best and most random ideas when I oc with other people :D. Hope Furcon was fun for you and you didnt go home TOO broke...soo many talented artists..sooo little money.
odious I only got to see you the one time you passed my table, but nonetheless twas a pleasure seeing you again. Hope your trip up to fc and back home was safe and without excess adventures of the negative sort.
astolpho Your hair rawks XD...I never thought dreadlocks appealing but somehow I can't picture you without them. Also..curse thee..I contemplated on more than one occassion to steal the lion cub in a tux. I think my gums started bleeding everytime I saw it. Your girlfriend was also a sweetheart, it was nice to run into you both..even if I was cuffed to the table the entire duration of the con. Hope you both enjoyed TLK on broadway and made it home safe and sound!
digitalis ROFLMAO..you so rawk! I am glad I got to share a room with you, your stories were absolutely brilliant! I envy your ability to make anyyy story come to life XD! Next year I hope to share a room with you again and find some time to do random sketch trades :). Hope your trip home was safe and your doggie gave you manyyyy kissshhhheessssssssss ;). *snicker*
Terry Smith -- I WANT your xena jacket *envy droolage* and we shall have to have a gladiator type brawl for who gets to marry Xena XD. I shall conquer all for the hand of xena *cackles* I didn't get to familiarize myself with your art toooo much this time around but I hope to get to know you and your work more at future cons.
bagheera Last but certainly not at all least! Well I thought I'd be nervous meeting you, anytime I meet someone Ive known for sometime online I think I will be nervous around, but I don't think I was at all nervous. Thats probably due to lack of sleep and an absolutely exhausted state of mind, but I was glad to finally meet you. I don't think you were at all different from what I imagined, which is always a relief for me because it shows me the person I knew online was being honest and themselves the entire time I knew them. One thing I do want to apologize for is that I didnt have any time to just sit and talk with you...though maybe thats for the best given that I am more wound up and hyper at a con than I would necessarily be otherwise. But perhaps later on we can get together as friends and just hang out for a while. The pineapple cakes were probably the only source of nourishment that kept me going hrough the days XD and I was/am flattered that you went out of your way to bring them for me all the way from home :). I was thankful simply to have your company during the two days, even though again I feel bad that I didnt have much of a chance to just talk with you...but even so your company made the days go by easier and smoother. *snugs in an aslan-like manner* I ammmmm heavily considering going to AC sooo we may actually have some time to do somefin random but fun.
Anyone else that I met and didn't mention, PLEASE drop a note here and tell me you ran into me ^__^...I'm mostly horrid with remembering names and need a few conks on the noggin before I remember. Do feel free to conk me as many times as it takes.
Now to make up for the almost painfully LOOOONG post, some pituuurress. Also if any of the above didnt make sense, blame it on con crud. I got a pretty flech cold a day after getting home. I figure the lack of sleep/rest and general stress(good stress), probably just caught up with me.

Pencil badges 3x4 inches on bristol :). These were by far my most favorite ones to do, something about plain pencil on paper.

non standard sized badges for Goldenrod and Atolm..also a lot of fun to do..especially Goldenrod's XD..I so needed more sleep that day!

digital badges I did during the con. I was upset, however, with the color calibration on the laptop monitor..the printouts came out vastly different than what they showed up as on my screen..so I may well not offer next day digital badges at the next con..unless I can figure out how to get a better color profile for the monitor/printer. I will prolly fix the colors on the badges I did before sending out the files to their respective owners. Sorry about that guys :(.

justblieve as an im sorry for buying out all the lemur shtuffs in the dealers room :P. Im not finished with it..and yes me scanner ate it.

For
kyoht because frankly Aye Aye's get no luvin. Yes she is kinda scary..but sexy too O_o. This was/is a collaboration between J.L. Anderson *LUFFINS* and myself. She did the original sketch and I just did the fur details and shading. Imma add a simple border and send it to Kyoht herself. Again scan ate it >_>.
and finally my new lemur collection. To anyone going to cons..hint HINT hint, do lemur art...you will have one buyer right here :P. Also christmas/birthday gift ideas...ahem..anything lemur related XD...doesnt matter if its ringtail, ruffed, etc etc etc...any lemur is a good lemur, chyess.

Picture of lemur shtuffs I got at Furcon. Apparantly lemurs are not at all popular so most of them were cheaply priced and one lady even threw in a free one since I bought the rest of them. The printies are by Dark Natasha (L) and Kenket (R) both of them will be framed and hung up next to what will become my lemur shrine. As a matter of fact I do have issues :D.
and a sketchy I did of a Lemur King. yes mistakes there be matey, but I dunna care tonight (must be el cold medicine talking)

I need a name for a lemur chara, first one shall be a ringtail. It'll be a good excuse to commission others to draw meh lemurs to add to my collection. FWAHA! so ifn you have any idears, do share :D!!!

and finally my new lemur collection.

Say, out of curiosity (since it's just created quite a stir here and we can't find the source of your info), where did you see anything about Kyoht being GoH at AC? Was that a misplaced bit of text, or is it for real? :>
Lovely fur work on that last lemur pick! Really awesome! :D
*weep*
The BLING necklace on the aye-aye wins. Overall though.. I'm scared she's going to eat me in my sleep. LMAO
AYE-AYE'S FOREVER!!
Oh dear, I hope Idess didn't think I was being rude to her, I never know what to say to new people.
and I doubt Idess thinks that..I can be the same way..I think I was just too exhausted to be nervous around anyone during the duration of the con. BTW LOVED the hat XD.
Ahh the lemurs are precious! Duke University has an onsite lemur habitat thats only open to students. From what I hear it's a really nice open habitat, so that ecology/animal behavior/evolution students can observe and study the primates. It's one of the reasons I'm applying there x).
ANYWAY. Glad you had such a great time there Balaa, and thanks for sharing it with those of us who didnt get to go. I have to live vicariously through you XD *fluff*
If you make a lemur-self, you definately need to let me know and I shall draw us together ;)
AND yes I think I actually came up with a name for my lemur in the language of Magasy, which is the official language in madagascar. Im debating between Adana which meansPeace/Happiness, Alina which means Night or Maky(pronounced Makoo) which basically means ring tailed lemur XD. I'll link you to the dictionary ifn you like unless you already have a name for your lemurness.
Hows goes it? Just thought I would ask! I loves your arts so nice! Glad to see you have recovered from the con. You to have had much fun and met many new people! Anyhow you have an awesome day little liger friend! You and your fiance take care and have an awesome day! God bless you both always! ***Friendly hug and nuzzle!***
*curls up in the soft silken purple mane of the enormous though gentle giant of a dragon.* Take care of yourself..sorry I havent answered too many of your comments...life has been entirely too hectic!
I guess in all you can not be my fangirl any more now that you are one of the wives, however I have no idea how I'm going to support you all. ;) By no means could you ever get annoying and I look forward to hanging out again. I'm glad you where able to make it to the room for some Homework and chatting.
I see you finished the Jay you where working on in the room at the time and it looks fantastic! I'd love to see you do a cobra and you might get a lot more attention then you expect from it. I was surprised how much attention I got just from the two I did. I need to do more! Just the scales take so much time.
Yea lemurs, underappreciated but then there are a lot of other animals that I feel that way about. Hopefully in time they will grow in popularity. Funny how you want more Lemurs, Ky wants more Aye ayes, Kenket vultures, and myself snakes especially cobras!
Love the lemur chara! You do have a great eye for details and an amazing amount of patients to color them the way you do. Besides I have to agree with fireeyes in that your work easily holds just as much talent and detail as my work does. ;)
Keep up the fantastic work and email me when you get the time. ;D
Ponders the paradox of wife versus fangirl. I surmise you are right..but then wife is a much elevated status and I have no doubt you have some fangirls/boys that come entirely too close to being freakish stalkers. *stalks* >____> :P
I was looking at varieties of cobras yesterday and snakes in general..I loovve the colors snakes have, it makes you realize just how diverse nature is and that really nothing is improbable in nature (when it comes to variety of colors, markings etc etc) And for that matter it makes you realize juuust how much room there is for artistic exploration. I look forward, truly, to seeing where you art goes and seeing you continue to grow and evolve as an artist..as you are most certainly a person I consider a mentor and an inspiration to myself.
Now that I have spewed an abundance of corn in your direction *composes self and brushes off corn kernels* yes I vill be e-mailing you soon.
and omg...i love the pic of mal and the lemurs xD all your work is amazing! but you know that already, since i tend to say it over and over a bagillion times, lol.
BTW SHMEX goggles...remind me of charlie and the chocolate factory XD!
looks like you had lots of fun! =)
I hope I can go one day an meet everybody!
Those pictures are gorgeous! Sounds like you had a blast! ^___^
It's unfortunate, too, that I didn't ever really get the chance to meet you.
Congrats on your artshow stuff!
Twas a pleasure to meet you anyway :)
*sigh*
Next year... next year will hopefully be no more work and all about fun.
I am glad Jenny was there because she was the dose of hyperness I needed to open up from time to time. xD
oh and hey, you need to scan the porn badge! :P
Don't let the whole "that is digital, so it isn't real" snobs get you down. Your digital stuff is awesome too, so don't you forget it! ;)
